Alcohol Use

Alcohol consumption has long been associated with fatal accidents and foolish incidents. It can often be difficult for a person to control himself after becoming intoxicated, however, simply speaking, the substance abuse counselor here can help individuals make decisions that can prevent drinking from being a disastrous event.
Photo taken 06/18/2003 by Sgt. Joshua BozemanThe Marine Corps objective is to eliminate alcohol abuse. Combating the debilitating threat posed by alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency on both Marines and mission readiness requires a total commitment from all levels of leadership. Leaders must be alert to characteristics of alcohol abuse and with the symptoms of the disease of alcohol dependency. All leaders must not in any way promote or condone alcohol misuse.

During Red Ribbon Week Oct. 23-29, various organizations like the Substance Abuse Control Center at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar have been promoting anti-drug messages to get Marines and other personnel on and off the station to stomp out drug and alcohol abuse in their own lives. Alcoholism and drug abuse are diseases that can be cured with proper help. Photo by: Lance Cpl. Skye Jones
