THE ARMED FORCES BOWLING CHAMPIONSHIPS WILL BE HELD 28 NOVEMBER TO 8 DECEMBER 2009 AT FT BLISS, TX. MARINES WHO QUALIFY FOR THE U.S. ARMED FORCES TEAM, WILL COMPETE AT THE U.S. NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP 14-19 DECEMBER 2009 IN LAS VEGAS, NV.

MARINES INTERESTED MUST SUBMIT APPLICATIONS NLT 15 NOVEMBER
2009. APPLICATIONS MUST CONTAIN WRITTEN PROOF OF CURRENT AVERAGE. AVERAGES MUST BE AT LEAST 215 FOR MEN AND 150 FOR WOMEN.

APPLICATIONS MUST CONTAIN COMMAND ENDORSEMENT STATING MARINE WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE TO ATTEND ALL EVENTS IF SELECTED. MARINES STATIONED AT A COMMAND WITH A LOCAL MCCS SEMPER FIT MUST SUBMIT THEIR APPLICATIONS THROUGH THE SEMPER FIT ATHLETIC DIRECTOR.

Four Marines participate in Ironman World Championships

Kona, Hawaii, October 10th, 2009 -- "Just as iron sharpens iron, one man sharpens another," is a saying often heard among Marines. The saying comes from Proverbs 27:17. It could not have been more appropriate than along the circuitous course where four Marines joined elite athletes from around the world for the Ford Ironman World Championship.

They started in historic and hip Arlington, VA, winded their way through parts of D.C and finished near the Marine Corps War Memorial back in Arlington. For 26.2 miles along the way, over 20,000 men and women ran what is called "The People's Marathon," the 34th running of the Marine Corps Marathon.

John Mentzer, from Kittery, ME won the marathon with a time of 2:21:47. Placing second in 2:25:02 was Jacob Johnson of Sherwood, AR and the third-place finisher was Salvador Miranda of Mexico, finishing just behind Johnson in 2:25:24.

Philadelphia, Pa, September 20, 2009 -- The All Marine Running Team joined a field of approximately 13,000 like-minded runners for the running of the Philadelphia Distance Run last Sunday here.

Official USMC Photo and story by Maj.Billy CanedoThe Philadelphia Distance Run is a half-marathon, or 13.1 miles, that runs along the center of the city, out the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, through the picturesque Fairmont Park and returns along the Schuylkill River for the finish. The race starts and ends at Eakins Oval, just across from the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the steps now made famous by the movie "Rocky," starring Sylvester Stallone.

            From the start of the race the route follows wide and scenic boulevards lined with historical sites, such as: Independence Hall, the "Liberty Bell," and the house where Thomas Jefferson authored the Declaration of Independence.

All-Marine Rugby Trial Camp Moved to MCLB Albany, GA

The All-Marine Rugby Trial Camp, originally scheduled to take place at MCB Camp Lejeune, will be moved to MCLB Albany, GA 30 October to 8 November 2009.  The Armed Forces Championship is scheduled 9-15 November at Fort Benning, GA.  Due to the location of the Armed Forces Championship, the move will ease financial and logistical operations for the All-Marine Team.  For further questions, please contact the Marine Corps Sports Office at 703-784-9542 or steven.dinote@usmc.mil

     ASSOCIATION (NSSA).

The U.S. Armed Forces Triathlon

PT. MUGU, Calif. - The U.S. Navy men’s team took first place in the U.S. Armed Forces Triathlon on Saturday, May 30, at Naval Base Ventura County, Point Mugu. ENS Derek Oskutis, the runner-up at this year’s Collegiate Nationals before graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy, was the first person to cross the finish line with a time of 1:54:50.22. He joins six-time champions MAJ Mike Hagen of Army and LT Timothy O’Donnell of Navy as the only men to win armed forces titles.

In her second time racing this event, Captain D'Arcy Spiese (Marine Corps) captures the silver medal in the women's division.

MILLINGTON, Tenn. – The 2009 Armed Forces Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships wrapped up competition late Sunday night with the Navy women and the Air Force men taking gold medals in their respective divisions. The Navy women finished up strong with a record of 5-1, taking gold for the second consecutive year, while the Air Force men swept the competition away with a record of 6-0, clinching their fourth consecutive title.

Desmond Marion may have found a reason to join the Marine Corps, thanks in part to Marine Week Chicago.

Marion, a 17-year-old senior at Proviso West High School, and other scholars from  Proviso West were treated to a boxing clinic courtesy of the Marine Corps Boxing Team May 12 as part of Marine Week Chicago.

The United States Marine Corps launches its inaugural Marine Week in Chicago, May 11-17, 2009 when the city opens its doors to the nearly 2,000 Marines who will participate in various community activities throughout the Chicagoland area. 

 

“Established to recognize the contributions of local Marine heroes, their families, and the cities from which they came, Marine Week also showcases the rich history and traditions of our beloved Corps,” said General James T. Conway, Commandant of the Marine Corps.  “This is the first of many celebrations honoring country and Corps in cities across the nation.”

The United States will participate in the 2009 Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM) Track & Field Championship, 6-13 June, Sofia, Bulgaria. The Air Force has scheduled a pre-CISM Championship Training Camp at Ramstein Air Base, Germany 30 May through 5 June. The United States CISM Team is open to all Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Navy participants.

“I’d like to see if we can find some people to fill in some of our lighter weight classes,” said Simms. “Maybe some people who never really thought about boxing, but might like to give it a try.”
