TRY-OUTS FOR ARMED FORCES WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM

The Armed Forces Women's Soccer Team trial camp will be held from 20 May to 7 June, 2010, at McDill Air Force Base. Women Marine soccer players are encouraged to apply. If selected to the Armed Forces Team, Marines will compete at the Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM) Women's World Military Soccer Championship. The World Military championship is scheduled for 20 June, 2010 in Cherbourg, France.
Marines interested must submit a sports application to HQMC (MRS) by 24 April 2010. Applications must include past soccer experience and tournaments played in the last two years.
Applications can be found at www.usmc-mccs.org/sports or the local Semper Fit Athletics Office. Applications must contain command endorsement stating the Marine will be made available to attend all events if selected.
Marines stationed at a command with a local MCCS Semper Fit must submit their applications through the Semper Fit Athletic Director.
This opportunity is open to active duty and reserve Marines alike.

The 2010 All-Marine Volleyball program will encompass floor and beach disciplines.
Floor volleyball: ALL-MARINE Men's and women's floor volleyball team trials will be held 11 April to 4 May 2010 at MCAS Cherry Point, NC.
The Armed Forces Men’s and Women’s Volleyball championship will be held 5-12 May 2010 at MCAS Cherry Point, NC.
Marines selected to Armed Forces Team, will compete at the following events: The Men’s Armed Forces Team will compete at the USA Volleyball National Championship 28 May to 2 June in Phoenix, AZ. The Women’s Armed Forces Team will compete at the Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM) Women’s World Military Volleyball Championship, hosted at MCAS Cherry Point, NC. Both men’s and women’s Armed Forces Teams will train at MCAS Cherry Point, NC prior to departure/start of their respective competitions.
Beach Volleyball:
The inaugural All-Marine Men’s and Women’s Beach Volleyball team trials will be held 23 April to 2 May 2010 at MCAS Cherry Point, NC.
The inaugural Armed Forces Beach Volleyball Championship 3 to 7 May 2010 at MCAS Cherry Point, NC.
Beach volleyball format is 2-person USA Volleyball Beach Rules. Each Service will have two men and two women teams compete at the Armed Forces Championship.
Marines interested in beach volleyball must submit application by team. The All-Marine Beach Volleyball Camp is limited to a total of four men and four women teams. A tournament at the end of the trial camp will determine the final two men and two women teams.
Applications must highlight team and individual experience. Final selections to camp will be determined by a coaching panel.

The best men and women bowlers from the Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Navy came to Fort Bliss from around the world to prove that they are worthy of a position on the Armed Forces Team.

Gen. James T. Conway will induct former Marines Angelo Bertelli, Leo Nomellini, Gil Hodges, and Robert Wanzer at a luncheon ceremony that will celebrate their achievements.

Members of the Marine Corps Wrestling Team competed at the 2007 USA Wrestling National Championship in Las Vegas, NV. Sgt Donavan Depatto (MCB Camp Lejeune) and Sgt Jeremy Mclean (MCB Camp Pendleton) placed 4th and 8th respectively in the 60 kg Greco-Roman weight class. Competing in the Sombo competition, Capt Juan Ramos (MCB Camp Lejeune) placed 5th in the 74 kg weight class.

Northern Plains Regional Championships and Senior World Team Trials Qualifier Results

The All-Marine Wrestling team competed in Waterloo, Iowa last weekend at the Northern Plains Regional Championship and Senior World Team Trials qualifier. The winners of this tournament are automatically qualified to compete for a spot on the US World Team at the US World Team Trials of Wrestling to be held in Las Vegas June 8-10.

Marine Corps boxer headed to Olympic Box-off

Rawlins, Wyo., population: a little more than 9,000, is the hometown of Marine and possible future Olympic champion boxer Samuel Martinez.
Martinez, an All-Marine Corps Team boxer, recently triumphed in the light welter-weight division at the 2007 Armed Forces Boxing Championships at Bennett Fitness Center on Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. The southpaw defeated the Navys Petty Officer 2nd Class Adam Fusinato by decision to claim the gold medal in the competition.

2007 Armed Forces Women's Basketball Championship

This year marked the 30th Anniversary of Womens Basketball as an Armed Forces Sport, and the All-Army team successfully defended their gold medal from 2006 by capturing the Champions title with an undefeated, 6-0 record. The win allows Army to lay claim to 26 Gold Medals in the 30-year history of the event. Air Force finished second with a 3-3 record. Navy and the Marine Corps battled it out into overtime in the last game of the tournament, with the Marine ladies coming out on top to clinch the Third place honors with a 2-4 record. Navy finished 1-5.

It was a cloudy and soggy day as rain fell on the pitch where the Marine Corps Rugby Team stared down the Air Force Rugby Team at the Armed Forces Ruby Tournament Championships Oct. 27.
Air Force dominated the game beating the Marine Corps 34-3 in the 80 minute game and continued their three-year dominance of the tournament.
We are fortunate to come away with a well-earned win, said Lt. Col. Kenneth Holliday, head coach for the Air Force team. The Marine Corps never gives up. They are a fine organization.

Marine Corps Base Lejeune, N.C. - California head coach Jack Clark and coach Tom Billups spent Oct. 13-28 with the All-Marine Rugby Team, preparing the 25-man squad, most of which recently returned from deployment, before coaching the team at the 2006 Armed Forces Men's Championship. The Marines reeled off a 3-1 record in the tournament en route to facing Air Force in the final, earning a silver medal for their best finish in 18 years.

GYSGT GREEN BREAKS OWN WORLD RECORD

Gunnery Sergeant Michael Green, of Marine Air Training Support Group 21, has once again proved that he is one of the best power lifters in the world. On 3 June 2006, he displayed an incredible feat of strength at the World Association of Bench Pressers and Dead Lifters River Country Record Breakers Championships.
Gunnery Sergeant Green was awarded top honors and had the biggest bench press amongst 100 lifters from the southeastern states. He won first place in both the Open and Sub-master (33-39) 220 pound divisions. He surpassed his own world record of 617.2 pounds on his opening lift, which was 619 pounds. A record he set at the World Championships last November. He finished with an impressive 678 pounds, annihilating his previous record by 70 plus pounds.
