Russell Qualifies for Pan American Games

Cpl Damarius Russell has quailified to represent the United States at the 2011 Pan American (Pan Am) Games in Gaudalajura, Mexico 14 - 30 October 2011. 

A total of 98 male and 21 female athletes from 25 nations competed in the huge tournament this past weekend in Panama City, Panama.  Countries that attended were  Argentina, Antigua, Barbados, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Cayman Islands, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Nicaragua, host Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, Saint Vincent, United States of America, Uruguay and US Virgin Islands.Damarius Russell qualifies for the Pan Am Games 2011

Russell steam rolled his way through his first three opponents culminated by a convencing thrid round stoppage of his opponent from Trinidad and Tobago in the semi finals.  In the finals Russell was matched againist Junoir Castillo of Puerto Rico.  Russell lost the bout 13-12 in what was said to be one of the worst decisions in the tournament.  Coach Jesse Ravelo, USMC Head boxing coach who accompanied Russell to the tournament said that he has not seen anything this terrible in a long time.

Russell will now move on to start preparing to fight at the Texas State Games to help him prep for his long awaited date at the 2011 US Olympic trials to be held in Mobile, AL 1-8 August 2011.
