GYSGT GREEN BREAKS OWN WORLD RECORD

Gunnery Sergeant Michael Green, of Marine Air Training Support Group 21, has once again proved that he is one of the best power lifters in the world. On 3 June 2006, he displayed an incredible feat of strength at the World Association of Bench Pressers and Dead Lifters River Country Record Breakers Championships.

Gunnery Sergeant Green was awarded top honors and had the biggest bench press amongst 100 lifters from the southeastern states.  He won first place in both the Open and Sub-master (33-39) 220 pound divisions. He surpassed his own world record of 617.2 pounds on his opening lift, which was 619 pounds. A record he set at the World Championships last November. He finished with an impressive 678 pounds, annihilating his previous record by 70 plus pounds. This lift qualified the Gunnery Sergeant for the National Championships to be held in Dallas, TX on August 5. He also qualified for the World Championship meets to be held in Las Vegas, NV later in the year.

Hailing from a the small town of Cedar Hill, TX, he gives all credit to the Marine Corps for instilling the motivation and dedication needed to push his body far beyond its natural limitations. Gunnery Sergeant Green also says, "One can never take sole credit for great accomplishments in life. Everything is done through teamwork. From my wife and kids to my MATSG-21 family, everyone was needed for me to reach my goal. Gunnery Sergeant Green is currently stationed with MATSG-21 aboard NAS Pensacola as a Marine Liaison Officer for the Advanced Avionics School.
