LCpl Ryan Ellis, also from Miramar, finished second in the men's category. SSgt Brown is currently a member of the Marine Corps Running Program. As a prize to new runners. The top male and female finishers that are not part of the Marine Corps Running Program will receive a free trip to Cadence Performance Cycling and Multisport Centers in Philadelphia for physiological testing and will receive six months of free coaching by the All-Marine Running Coach Joe Puleo. If their progress continues, the Marines may be selected to the Marine Corps Running Program, who receive year-round training. Cadence Performance Cycling and Multisport Centers currently serve as the coaching services for the Marine Corps Running, Triathlon, and Cycling teams. The All-Marine Cross Country Championship was created as an avenue to identify the top runners throughout the Marine Corps. In addition, it allows the individual installations the opportunity to compete as a team in order to bring home the team championship title. The 2004 male and female All-Marine Champions (SSgt Jeremy Brown and Sgt Tara Smith) were the top Marine finishers at the 2005 Marine Corps Marathon.
