Marine Corps boxing team to take on British Army
By Cpl. Steven King, Marine Corps Community Services

On the night of April 18, 1775, the British Army began its move across the Charles River towards Lexington. Paul Revere, along with the other Sons of Liberty, immediately went into action by riding to Lexington and Charlestown to warn his fellow patriots with his legendary war cry, "The British are coming! History will be repeating itself on the 232nd anniversary of that legendary evening.

On the night of April 18 the British are coming again, but this time to the Goettge Memorial Field House aboard Camp Lejeune. The U.S. Marine Corps Boxing Team will take on the British Army 13 Air Assault Support Regiment Royal Logistics Corps Boxing Team. I'm excited because both teams have great talent. Win, lose, or draw, we are going give them a fight that would make the Sons of Liberty proud, said Coach Ronald Simms, All-Marine Boxing team headcoach.

This bout, as well as the upcoming bouts after it, are not about winning or losing as much as they are about sharpening our skills individually and as a team. Because I"ve only been working with this team for about a month and a half now, I want to learn as much as I can about both our strong points and the areas that we need to work on. This competition is the best way to do that, said Simms.

The action is set to kick off at 7 p.m. This is a free event and open to the public. For more information, call 451-2710.
