Congratulations to GySgt Guadalupe Castillo from 1st Transportation Support Battalion on being selected as the 2020 winner of the Exceptional Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) Victim Advocate (VA) of the Year Award. GySgt Castillo creativity, knowledge, and passion for sexual assault prevention has increased the visibility of the SAPR program and services the program provides.
GySgt Castillo has been a SAPR VA since 2018. She has established and maintained a high-caliber
SAPR program that supported the Marines and Sailors of 1st Transportation Support Battalion.
GySgt Castillo provided the required training, tailoring relevant material that improved understanding. She was also extremely diligent in leading and mentoring eight SAPR VAs and personally assisted them with completing their Department of Defense Sexual Assault Advocate (DSAACP) Certification Program packages.
GySgt Castillo worked with the battalion’s other SAPR VAs to create an environment where Marines and Sailors were comfortable approaching them and ensured the VAs had the skills and knowledge to respond in an effective and positive manner. Her positive impacts were felt not only by victims, other VAs and trainees, but also by her command. GySgt Castillo has built absolute trust and confidence from 1st Transportation Support Battalion Marines and battalion leadership through her consistent, sustained excellence in execution of her duties, and her overall knowledge of the SAPR VA program.
She has been an asset to SAPR. GySgt Castillo has made significant contributions to those who have been sexually assaulted and to the overall services and prevention efforts of the SAPR program.
