Personal development skills are personal attributes, personality traits, inherent social cues and communication abilities. Developing these skills involves the process of self-improvement, which focuses on strengthening your knowledge, capabilities, and self-awareness to reach your personal goals.

How can I improve my personal development skills?

Learn something new
Learning a new skill or educating yourself on a topic can improve your personal development skills, whether reading a book, signing up to take a course, or starting a new hobby. In doing so, your mind and perceptions will change – helping to build your skills.

Become a Volunteer
Volunteering provides opportunities to active duty personnel, their family members, retirees, veterans and civilians to connect with their installation and local community resources. Volunteering can help develop your personal and professional skills in public speaking, administrative skills, organization, and relationship building.

Contact your installation Marine Corps Family Team Building to sign up for LifeSkills Training or additional information on the Volunteer program. Your unit Deployment Readiness Coordinator or Uniformed Readiness Coordinator can also direct you toward volunteer opportunities.
