You’ve probably heard the term “HITT” a lot around the Marine Corps lately. Maybe you’ve seen the High Intensity Tactical Training (HITT) Lockers at your installation. Or perhaps you noticed the advertisements for the Ultimate HITT Championships that took place in September. You may be thinking “what exactly is a HITT athlete anyway?”

A HITT athlete is an individual who trains for combat readiness using a comprehensive athletic approach. HITT athletes use all facets of strength, power, speed and agility to improve their combat fitness level to their highest potential. For example, using power lifting exercises in a workout routine will improve total body explosive power increasing the potential for victory in combat scenarios.  Focusing on linear speed and agility training will improve the maneuverability of an individual in a combat situation such as maneuvering under fire. Using these methods to train for tactical situations gives active duty military personnel an advantage in combat.  That is why the Marine Corps has created its own program to develop HITT athletes.

The High Intensity Tactical Training (HITT) program’s primary purpose is to enhance operational fitness levels and optimize combat readiness and resiliency for Marines. It is a comprehensive strength and conditioning program that takes into consideration the physical demands of operational related activities in order to optimize physical performance while in combat. HITT uses the latest cutting edge training methods and scientific principles to enhance athleticism in today’s warrior athletes - The United States Marines. 

The HITT Program is aligned with the National Strength and Conditioning Agency (NSCA) Tactical Strength and Conditioning (TSAC) Training national standards and guidelines.
